Decades of Experience

A Howard Family History

Capitol Iron Works was founded 65 years ago by the Howard Family Patriarch James (Jim) Howard. Acquiring a metal shop making rail and steps in a Quonset hut off of the Jackson Highway in Sacramento, it soon grew into a steel fabrication plant on Power Inn Road, the current location. His wife Frances was doing the office work with the help of daughter Diana. Soon after, Jim enticed his son Dan who was on hiatus from College to join the team, business started to take off and grow and flourish.

Eventually Dan and Diana took over the business until their retirement. Currently Capitol Iron Works is run by longstanding President Steve Hartzell. Transfer of ownership is in the works with the employment and leadership of Dan’s stepson Ian Hart.

With the foundation of a strong heritage, Capitol Iron Works is set up for a successful and lasting future.
